There are lots of exciting and fun activities happening in Cornwall this August. Here’s a selection to look out for:
Join Newquay Zoo this summer for an array of Asian themed activities, trails and talks. With lots of family-friendly activities on offer, along with an Asian themed trail and face painting, and not forgetting the regular feed and talks sessions. As well as meeting many other amazing species and experiencing some up close encounters. A perfect day out for all the family where you can get closer to animals!
This summer, the Eden Project is set for its biggest prehistoric invasion yet as it is taken over by incredible creatures from land, sea and air. Get ready to uncover fascinating facts about land-roaming giants, monsters from the deep and ancient creatures of the skies. You can also visit the tropical biomes showing diverse plants from various climates that has been dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World by some.
Paradise Park is a wildlife sanctuary with tropical birds and creatures, and it has a JungleBarn indoor play area. Every day throughout this summer (at 2pm), watch over 40 Swainson’s and Green-naped Lorikeets released from their enclosure as they swoop down onto the awaiting crowd. Buy a pot of nectar, and you will be guaranteed some close attention from these wonderfully mischievous little characters. You never know quite what is going to happen.
This summer visit St Michael’s Mount and cross the granite causeway to an island where modern life meets layers of history, discover a medieval castle, a sub-tropical paradise and a close-knit island community. Delve into the history of a fortress, a priory, a harbour and a home. St Michael’s Mount has special events throughout summer, here’s some highlights:
Local kite surfing instructor Angus Tobey is going to put down the big kites for a couple of days and manage two kite building workshops. Enjoy making a kite from recycled materials and have fun making it fly.
Take a walk on the wild side and join Claire Scott from Great Scott! Adventures Outdoors for a rummage in the rockpools. Discover and meet the weird and wonderful creatures that live just off the Mount causeway. Learn amazing things about their lives and who is dinner and who is diner.
Summer is officially at Flambards as the theme park opens its doors daily for the holiday season. All the rides and attractions are open daily from 29th June until 11th September and the famous fireworks are ready to light up the summer sky in August. From Monday 8 August, visitors can enjoy the famous fireworks display at the theme park every Monday and Wednesday until 31st August. Lighting up the sky over the theme park the fireworks evenings are an unmissable experience for all the family to enjoy.
Dive into sea life this summer and learn all about blue tangs and clownfish like Dory and Nemo. Join the team at Cornish Seal Sanctuary on an interactive trail where you’ll discover facts about the real life versions of your favourite Disney Pixar characters. Complete the trail and you’ll have earned your exclusive Finding Dory reward! The Sanctuary is home to a wide range of marine creatures and you can hear about dramatic rescues and meet the seal and sea lion characters whose individual stories are brought to life during your visit.
Hold on to your (hi-tech) seats and get ready for the ride of your life! The new purpose built Super Sim Theatre is home to Cornwall’s most talked about new attraction – the Camel Creek 5D Simulator Experience! Be transported to a magical new world where 3D is just the beginning. Buckle up and join Captain Redbeard for a swashbuckling pirate adventure of discovery on the high seas! You’ll encounter skeletons, sea monsters and mermaids in this magical moving nautical odyssey.
